Authorities have issued a cautionary notice following the discovery of suspected poisoned meat in two parks in west London, which has resulted in serious illness and fatalities among local wildlife.
The Metropolitan Police reported that chicken believed to contain harmful substances was found in both Holland Park and Brompton Cemetery over a span of several days.
One dog reportedly ingested some of the contaminated meat and subsequently became „very unwell,“ while two foxes were discovered deceased without any apparent injuries.
Investigators suspect that the meat may have been intentionally placed to harm animals, potentially targeting either foxes or dogs.
Professional dog walker Kris Sikora noted that such incidents are not uncommon. „In this case, it’s poison meat,“ he stated. „Previously, we’ve encountered toys that have been poisoned. The most shocking incident involved razor blades hidden in tennis balls.“
Dog owners are being advised to stay alert and prevent their pets from scavenging in the affected areas. In Brompton Cemetery, police have reiterated that dogs should be kept on leashes at all times.
A woman walking her dog in Holland Park expressed her outrage, stating, „I’m totally disgusted. I can’t even imagine why anyone would do that.“ Another dog walker added, „It’s absolutely horrendous. I’m not sure if someone’s doing it for a spiteful reason. It will stop people coming to the park with their dogs.“
Sikora recommended that dog owners take all necessary precautions if they observe their pet consuming something unfamiliar and to seek veterinary assistance immediately. „The best advice I can give is to just stay as vigilant as possible,“ he advised.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and encourage the public to report any suspicious activity in the parks.
