An investigation is underway following an arson incident that resulted in the destruction of four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service in Golders Green.
Law enforcement officials are currently on-site, treating the incident as an antisemitic hate crime.
At approximately 01:45 hours on Monday, March 23, police were alerted by the London Fire Brigade regarding a fire on Highfield Road in Golders Green.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that four Hatzalah ambulances were engulfed in flames.
As a precautionary measure, nearby residences were evacuated, and road closures have been implemented. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all fires have been extinguished.
Authorities have noted reports of explosions, which are believed to be associated with gas canisters located on the ambulances.
Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who oversees policing in the area, stated, “We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries. We are in the process of examining CCTV and are aware of online footage. We believe we are looking for three suspects at this early stage.”
Jackson further emphasized, “There have been no arrests yet, and we would urge anyone with information to please contact us as soon as possible – you can do so anonymously if you wish.”
In response to the incident, police will be engaging with local faith leaders and increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance and maintain a visible presence.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 101, quoting CAD415 of March 23, or to reach out anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
