New Delhi: Birkbeck, University of London, has received a Letter of Intent from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish its global campus in Bengaluru, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
The new campus will provide Indian students with the opportunity to earn internationally recognized degrees from the University of London at a cost that is nearly 60 percent lower than studying in the UK, while upholding the same academic standards, research-driven teaching, and industry-integrated curriculum.
Supporting India’s Educational Goals
This initiative aligns with India’s objective to elevate its Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education to 50 percent by the year 2030, thereby enhancing access to high-quality international education within the country.
„The issuance of the Letter of Intent signifies a new avenue for global education for Indian students. It demonstrates the trust that prominent international institutions have in India’s rapidly advancing higher education landscape,“ stated Vineet Joshi, Higher Education Secretary.
Joshi further emphasized that through progressive UGC regulations, the government is facilitating the establishment of esteemed global institutions in India. He noted, „Students will now have the chance to access world-class international education at significantly reduced costs, nearly 60 percent less than studying abroad. This is crucial for ensuring equity and broadening opportunities.“
