Concerns Rise Over Iran’s Missile Capabilities and UK Defense Readiness

Concerns have escalated regarding the potential threat posed by Iran, particularly in light of recent statements made on GB News. Anchors Mark White and Anne Diamond were taken aback by a warning from a British Army spokesperson indicating that the UK could be significantly endangered if Iran were to launch an attack. In a stark reminder of the looming threat of global conflict, it was disclosed that Iranian missiles possess the technical capability to reach London, following Iran’s targeting of a US-UK military base located 2,000 miles away.

White initiated the discussion by posing a question to Major Mike Shearer, a guest on the program: “These missiles being able to reach London, it’s not actually new, is it? We’ve always kind of known this.” Shearer responded with concern, stating, “We’ve always suspected they’re there, but they can go as far as 2,400 miles.”

“Now if anybody wanted any convincing that the Iranians were looking forward to nuclear warheads, this is it. These intercontinental ballistic missiles will carry nuclear warheads. Of course, we have precious little that can stop it,”

Shearer continued, emphasizing the reliance on the Royal Air Force for defense, noting, “All we can call upon now is the Royal Air Force, because we’ve no Iron Dome. Not surprising because we’ve got 2.3% of GDP – a huge chunk which is spent on MI5, MI6, GCHQ and topping up veterans’ pensions.”

He elaborated further, stating, “The general public are unaware. They just see the big sum and think, ‘We’re spending a lot on conventional warfare’. About 1.3% is on the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. We really need to invest, we need to strip it out from the welfare state.”

Shearer also pointed out a troubling trend, mentioning, “I read about two days ago that 100 new individuals every day are getting benefits for anxiety. We need to wake up and get our priorities right. The closest crocodile to the boat right now are our defences.”

In a related note, Piers Morgan expressed his concerns on social media, tweeting, “So not only has Iran brazenly lied about its ballistic missile range capacity, but this means it can probably hit the UK with them – and we have zero, I repeat ZERO, defence against these missiles. Very worrying.”
