A prestigious private members‘ club located in west London has submitted a proposal to construct a new cricket pavilion aimed at enhancing accessibility for disabled visitors and providing restroom facilities for spectators.
The Hurlingham Club, situated in Fulham, indicated that its current pavilion, which has been in use for over 30 years, is no longer suitable for its patrons, as detailed in its planning report submitted to the Hammersmith and Fulham Council. Details of the Proposed Pavilion
The club, which boasts membership that includes the Princess of Wales, seeks to replace the dilapidated structure with a new wooden pavilion that will feature a pitched roof, expansive verandas, and intricate timber detailing, reflecting traditional cricket pavilion architecture.
If the proposal is approved, the new pavilion will cover an area of 165 square meters, nearly doubling the size of the existing facility.

Current Pavilion Limitations

The Hurlingham Club has stated that the current pavilion fails to meet the expectations of the club, its members, or visitors, as well as the guidelines set forth by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

According to the application documents, the Hurlingham Club is a private social and sports establishment located on 42 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds adjacent to the River Thames. Established in 1869, it is recognized as one of the world’s premier private member clubs, offering facilities for croquet, tennis, and botanical gardens, along with a grand Georgian clubhouse.
The Grade II listed Hurlingham House serves as the main building, housing club rooms, dining areas, offices, and gym facilities, as well as indoor tennis, pickleball, and padel courts, along with an indoor swimming pool.
Membership fees are reported to be £1,400 annually, and the club maintains a closed membership list, which is reviewed only once a year.
