Driver Detained Following Collision with Pedestrians in Central London

A woman has been taken into custody on charges of attempted murder after a vehicle struck pedestrians in central London during the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the Metropolitan Police, a woman in her 30s is currently in critical condition, while a man in his 50s has sustained life-altering injuries following the incident on Argyll Street in Westminster at approximately 4:30 AM. Additionally, a second woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries.

The driver, a 29-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene on multiple charges, including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence. She was subsequently taken into police custody.

Authorities have stated that the incident, which occurred on a street in Soho near the London Palladium theatre, is not being investigated as a terrorism-related event.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell has urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. She emphasized the importance of public assistance in the ongoing investigation, stating,

“As our inquiries continue, our thoughts are with those injured and their loved ones. While this incident took place in the early hours of the morning, venues in the area were still open, and we believe a number of people will have seen what happened.”

Foxwell continued,

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or any activity prior to it that they feel may be of relevance, to come forward. The information you have – however minor you believe it may be – could be of crucial importance to investigators.”
