The Young Gun series highlights the promising academy players beginning their journeys at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.
Recently, Bryony Brodie shared insights about her transition from a defensive midfield position to the no.10 role, expressing her enjoyment in contributing to the scoring efforts for both her club and the national team.
“I’m in my seventh season at Arsenal now, and even though it feels like so much has changed since I joined as a ten-year-old, I think that what the club stands for has remained the same,”
she stated.
Brodie emphasized that her experience has instilled a strong sense of determination, noting that within an academy, every player is ultimately competing for the same goal: a professional contract. She reflected,
“I’d like to think I’m still the same person, but I’ve changed a lot as a player.”
Last season, she primarily played as a box-to-box midfielder, but her recent shift to a more offensive role has been significant. Upon moving up to the under-17s for England, a new coach introduced her to the no.10 position.
“I did well there, scored a couple of goals, so Arsenal decided to do the same,” she explained. This positional change has altered her approach to the game.
“When I was playing in the six, I had a bigger focus on defence. Now I have to consider goalscoring opportunities, my position around the box, and building partnerships with wingers and strikers.”
