Hackney Art Week is set to return this June, promising an even larger celebration of creativity than in previous years.
The east London festival will run from June 4 to 14, expanding its reach across the borough. This year, it will feature the work of 60 artists and creatives showcased in 50 different venues throughout Hackney, including areas such as Dalston, Clapton, London Fields, De Beauvoir, Stoke Newington, Haggerston, and Hackney Wick.
Overview of Hackney Art Week
Founded in 2025 by local residents Lisa Baker and Anna McHugh, Hackney Art Week aims to transform the borough into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. Over the course of ten days, the event will include a diverse array of activities such as exhibitions, markets, workshops, performances, immersive installations, street parties, and an art treasure hunt.
Participating venues will include notable locations like Raleigh Chapel, Chats Palace, The Rose Lipman Building, St Augustine’s Tower, and ESEACC at The Old Bath House, along with local pubs, bakeries, delis, and other beloved spots in Hackney.
Featured Events and Highlights
This year’s program will feature several exciting highlights. One of the key events is the Dalston Cultural Quarter Takeover, scheduled for June 6 and 7. This event will include workshops, artist open studios, a ceramics market, and a street-level sound system that will enliven Arcola Street.
Another intriguing installation, titled The Sandwich Walk by Jeanne Gourlaouen, will present surreal sculptures that combine shoes and sandwiches, inviting visitors to engage with the artwork in unexpected ways on Wilton Way.
Interactive Experiences
The Collagism™ Art Hunt will transform the streets surrounding London Fields into a dynamic collage, creating a borough-wide treasure hunt where participants can discover hidden QR codes that lead to clues.
For those interested in live music, composer Gabriel Prokofiev has curated over 100 events that will take place in various venues, including clubs and warehouses, ensuring a rich auditory experience throughout the festival.
Accessibility and Participation
All events during Hackney Art Week are free and open to the public, encouraging widespread participation and engagement with the arts. For more information, attendees can visit the official Hackney Art Week website.
