Former Spandau Ballet frontman Ross Davidson reportedly informed a woman he is accused of raping that he desired to engage in sexual activity with a „still, lifeless, unresponsive“ individual, according to court proceedings.
The woman, who remains unnamed due to legal constraints, claims she awakened in Davidson’s bed to find him assaulting her in London in March 2015, a charge he refutes.
During her testimony at Wood Green Crown Court, the woman recounted that prior to the alleged assault, the two discussed his fantasy of having „sex with a mannequin.“ She also testified that Davidson placed her in a collar without her consent.
At 37 years old, Davidson, who has also performed under the name Ross Wild, gained recognition as a member of the pop band Spandau Ballet in 2018 and is noted for his role in the Queen-themed West End musical We Will Rock You.
The complainant stated in court: „[He] mentioned he liked the idea of having sex with a mannequin, a person in a helpless state, someone not moving.“
Jurors learned that he restrained her with a collar and wrist cuffs for approximately 20 minutes without permission, leaving her „confused“ and in „a state of shock,“ though he removed the restraints upon her request.
The discussion regarding the mannequin transpired prior to the alleged assault on an unspecified date. The complainant noted, „Initially he said model and I thought he meant attractive person.“
Defense attorney Charlotte Newell KC contended that the dialogue „obviously related to sexual practices, that was made quite clear,“ further asserting that the context involved the individual „pretending to be asleep“ rather than genuinely being so.
The complainant asserted that Davidson had never solicited her participation in such activities.
The two individuals met through a dating app and had face-to-face encounters spaced years apart, engaging in consensual sexual activities on multiple occasions, including several times leading up to the alleged rape, according to court reports.
In addition, Davidson is facing trial for attempted rape and sexual assault concerning another woman, after he allegedly filmed himself groping her in Thailand in 2019. He denies those accusations as well.
The jury has been informed that Davidson pleaded guilty to voyeurism in December 2019 involving the woman in Thailand.
The trial is ongoing.
