Is justice being served for the alleged victims of a tragic crime? A Colorado mother accused of murdering two of her children has been extradited from the UK to the United States, according to authorities.
Kimberlee Singler, 37, faces serious allegations related to the deaths of her children in Colorado prior to her flight to London, where she was arrested in December 2023.
Legal Proceedings in Focus
Ms. Singler contested her extradition at Westminster Magistrates Court, asserting that a potential conviction could violate European human rights laws. However, her arguments were not accepted.
The district attorney in Colorado announced on Tuesday that Ms. Singler has returned to the US and is currently in custody. She is being held without bond and is anticipated to appear in court „in the coming days.“
Charges and Background
District Attorney Michael Allen confirmed that Ms. Singler is facing multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, three counts of child abuse, and one count of assault.
During the extradition hearing in London, it was revealed that Ms. Singler’s alleged offenses occurred amidst contentious court proceedings regarding custody of her children with her ex-husband.
Prosecutor Joel Smith stated that police in Colorado Springs responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary at 00:29 local time (06:29 GMT) on December 19, 2023.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son deceased, along with a „blood-stained handgun“ located in the bedroom.
DNA testing on the firearm and a knife uncovered profiles that matched both the children and Ms. Singler.
A third child, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found with a severe neck injury and subsequently hospitalized but survived.
Mr. Smith noted that Ms. Singler attempted to implicate her husband in the attack, yet it was verified that he was driving a „GPS-tracked truck“ in Denver at the time of the incident, providing a „complete and verifiable alibi.“
Community Impact
Commenting on the extradition, Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez stated that it marks „a significant milestone“ in the ongoing investigation. He emphasized the profound impact of these events on the community, expressing that the hearts of the department remain with the victims.
