What leads to the tragic loss of life in a community? A £20,000 reward has been announced for information regarding the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in north London, which authorities suspect may have resulted from mistaken identity.
On March 20 at 20:45 GMT, Mahad Abdi Mohammed was shot in the head on Waverley Road in Tottenham. A friend of his, aged 26, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, which was assessed as non-life-changing.
The Metropolitan Police have released images of two individuals whom they are keen to question about the incident.
Mr. Mohammed’s youngest sister remarked, „If you know something and you haven’t come forward, please think about that. Think about a family that cannot begin to heal because the truth is still hiding in the shadows. My brother deserves better.“
Details of the Incident
According to the Met, on the evening of the shooting, Mr. Mohammed and his companion were outside breaking their fast when a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander approached, with suspects opening fire and hitting both men multiple times. This vehicle was later discovered burnt out the following morning.
Detectives suspect that the assailants arrived in and departed from the site of the shooting in a stolen blue Jaguar.
Authorities believe the shooting was a premeditated act aimed at another target, rather than a random event.
Community Appeal and Ongoing Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford emphasized, „Tottenham’s tight-knit community has experienced the heartbreaking impact of gun crime. There is someone out there who knows what happened that night, and we are urging those individuals to find it in their heart to come forward.“
She added, „No matter how small you think the information is, please speak to us. It could be exactly what we need to locate those responsible.“
Crimestoppers is promoting the reward for any information that leads to the conviction of the individuals responsible.
Mr. Mohammed’s sister further stated that her brother, who was a father, deserved justice, commenting, „To stay silent is to be complicit. To stay silent is to let a grieving mother suffer in confusion. To stay silent is to let a little boy grow up not knowing what happened to his father.“
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the case and were subsequently released on bail as investigations continue.
