Authorities have initiated a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in broad daylight in Woolwich, located in southeast London.
Police responded to reports of the shooting around 15:40 BST on Thursday on Lord Warwick Street. Initially, law enforcement indicated that the victim was an adult male, but they later confirmed the boy’s age.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Metropolitan Police have notified his family regarding the tragic incident.
In connection with the shooting, two boys aged 14 and 16, along with an 18-year-old man, have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. This incident is reminiscent of other troubling trends, such as the recent case of a 13-year-old boy arrested over viral school wars that have raised concerns across the UK.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is overseeing the investigation, urged anyone who was in the vicinity during the incident to come forward with information. She also requested any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage.
„Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and loved ones,“ she stated. „We recognize the concern this incident may raise within the local community. We have already made three arrests, and our investigation is ongoing.“
