Lindsay Hicks, a dedicated teacher from Knaresborough, is gearing up for her inaugural marathon, scheduled for later this month.
On Sunday, April 26, she will participate in the London Marathon, aiming to raise £2,000 for Henshaws, a charity based in Knaresborough that assists individuals with visual impairments and additional needs.
This marathon marks a significant milestone for Lindsay, who regards it as the most formidable challenge she has faced to date. With just three weeks left until the race, she has already achieved a personal training goal by completing a 33-kilometer run.
Support for Henshaws
Henshaws offers a variety of services for both adults and children, including specialized education, therapeutic support, and creative programs aimed at fostering independence and enhancing well-being.
Reflecting on her motivation, Lindsay attributes her commitment to the charity to her role as a primary school teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). She expressed,
“I’m passionate about ensuring children and young people receive the best support possible – and now I want to take that care beyond the classroom and into the wider community.”
Having resided in Knaresborough for over 25 years, Lindsay has a history of supporting Henshaws through various fundraising endeavors, including the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.
The funds raised from her marathon participation will help finance a range of services offered by the charity, such as creative workshops at its Arts and Crafts Centre, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy sessions, and specialized equipment for students with additional needs.
