Late Goal Secures Victory for Lincoln City, Nearing Promotion to Second Tier

Lincoln City edged closer to promotion with a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, thanks to a late goal from substitute Ryan One in the 88th minute. This victory solidifies Lincoln’s position at the top of League One, as they remain unbeaten in their last 23 matches.

With only six matches remaining, Lincoln needs just one more point to guarantee their place in the second tier for the first time since 1961. Their impressive goal difference gives them a significant advantage over their competitors.

The match began with Lincoln displaying their attacking intent early on. Within the first 30 seconds, Conor McGrandles had a chance, but his shot was saved by Wimbledon goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. The Dons responded in the 23rd minute when Callum Maycock’s low shot forced a diving save from Lincoln’s George Wickens.

As the first half progressed, Lincoln came close to scoring when Tom Bayliss’s free-kick from 25 yards struck the crossbar just before halftime, keeping the score level.

In the second half, Zack Nelson had a chance to put Wimbledon ahead but missed the target, shooting over the bar from a favorable position in the Imps‘ box.

However, it was Lincoln who found the breakthrough in the dying moments of the match. A cross from Dom Jefferies was met by One, who managed to scramble the ball into the net, sealing another crucial victory for the team.

„We should have got at least a point,“ said Jackson, reflecting on the match.

With this win, Lincoln City is now on the verge of a long-awaited return to the championship.
