On Wednesday, temperatures in London are projected to reach 26C, potentially making the city warmer than Barcelona, as reported by the Met Office.
Across the United Kingdom, warm weather and sunshine are anticipated, with Manchester and certain areas of Wales expected to experience afternoon highs of 21C.
If London does indeed reach 26C, it would surpass the current record for the hottest day of the year, which stands at 20.9C recorded in Gogerddan near Aberystwyth on March 18.
This forecast indicates that many regions in the UK will be warmer than Barcelona, where temperatures are expected to peak at 19C today.
On Thursday, southern parts of the UK will continue to enjoy sunny weather, with London’s temperatures expected to hit 21C.
“We’re seeing a brief but notable spell of very warm weather for early April, with temperatures more typically associated with late spring or early summer. This could be the warmest spell at this point in April since 2020,” said Paul Gundersen, chief forecaster at the Met Office.
This warm spell follows the disruptive effects of Storm Dave, which brought snow and strong winds over the Easter weekend, leading to travel disruptions and power outages in northern regions of the UK.
The storm produced gusts of wind reaching 93mph at Capel Curig in North Wales, while Emley Moor in West Yorkshire and St Bees Head in Cumbria recorded winds of 75mph. Additionally, Buchan in Aberdeenshire experienced gusts of 73mph, according to the Met Office.
As a result of the severe winds, some properties in Scotland lost power. Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) were deployed to restore service to the few affected customers, primarily in Skye, Caithness, and coastal areas of Aberdeenshire.
