More than 40 individuals have been apprehended and 74 illegal e-bikes confiscated during a week-long initiative aimed at combating crime and anti-social behavior in north-west London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The operation specifically targeted the distribution of illegal merchandise, resulting in the recovery of over 1,100 suspected stolen mobile phones from a shop located on Kilburn High Road—more than double the initial estimates.

Additionally, two 20-inch (50 cm) machetes were discovered at a nearby barber shop, along with a van linked to drug trafficking that contained £3,000 worth of nitrous oxide canisters, commonly referred to as laughing gas.

The Metropolitan Police stated that they took „robust action“ by increasing patrols in response to rising concerns regarding crime in the area.

In total, 45 arrests were made for various offenses, including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of offensive weapons, and shoplifting. Notably, there was a recent incident involving illegal delivery riders that highlights the ongoing issues in the region.

Insp Yu Zhang, who oversaw the operation, remarked, „This crackdown has seen drugs, weapons, and dangerous illegal e-bikes taken off the streets. We know these offenses are ones that our communities care about, and they want to see officers taking robust action.“

He further emphasized, „We have done exactly that; this week-long operation will disrupt the criminal networks in Kilburn, ensuring the area is undoubtedly safer for the community.“

As part of the ongoing efforts, the Metropolitan Police have been utilizing various strategies, including e-bikes and drones, to enhance their effectiveness in tackling phone theft and other crimes. Recently, a 13-year-old boy was arrested over a viral trend that has raised further concerns about youth safety in the area.
