The former chief executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital is facing legal proceedings related to allegations of indecent exposure and sexual assault. The incidents reportedly occurred at Battersea Park, where Dr. Martin Kuper is accused of exposing himself to a woman and subsequently assaulting a police officer during his arrest.
Dr. Kuper, 57, has denied the charges stemming from an incident on April 28, 2025, which took place shortly before his departure from the NHS trust. During the court proceedings, prosecution barrister Barbara Valentini detailed the allegations, stating that Kuper approached the victim while she was sunbathing and exposed his genitals.
Details of the Allegations
According to the prosecution, Kuper allegedly grabbed a female police constable inappropriately while being taken into custody. He served as the chief executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from September 2021 until July 2025. Prior to this role, he was the chief medical director at Northwick Park Hospital and held a senior position at Whittington Hospital.
During the hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates‘ Court, Kuper confirmed his identity and residence in Chelsea, asserting his innocence by stating „not guilty“ twice when the charges were presented. He has opted for a trial by jury and is scheduled to appear at Kingston Crown Court on March 10, where a trial date will be established.
Magistrate Sandra Burling granted Kuper bail with the stipulation that he must refrain from entering Battersea Park in southwest London.
