A 43-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with the tragic death of her infant daughter in central London on Saturday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of an infant falling from a height on Horseferry Road in Westminster at approximately 7:30 AM. The 18-day-old baby girl was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Zahira Byjaouane has been charged with murder and is currently in custody, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday. She is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates‘ Court on Monday.
In the aftermath of the incident, a police cordon was established on Saturday, encompassing a significant portion of Great Peter Street, adjacent to Horseferry Road. This cordon was lifted by Sunday morning.
In a poignant gesture, flowers and a toy animal were placed near the Peabody Estate in memory of the child.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command are overseeing the ongoing investigation into this heartbreaking case.
