A new arrest has been made as part of a Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into an arson incident targeting volunteer-operated ambulances associated with the Jewish community in Golders Green.
On Saturday morning, April 4, Metropolitan Police officers apprehended a 19-year-old man at Westminster Magistrates‘ Court while he was attending a hearing for three other suspects. The officers identified him as being involved in the arson attack and subsequently arrested him on charges of arson with intent to endanger life.
Three additional individuals have already been charged in connection with this case. They include 20-year-old Hamza Iqbal and 19-year-old Rehan Khan, both British nationals from Leyton, along with a 17-year-old boy who holds dual British and Pakistani nationality from Walthamstow. These three were charged on Friday, April 3, with reckless arson, violating Section 1(2) of the Criminal Damage Act 1971. The arrests occurred on Wednesday, April 1, at various locations in east London, with Counter Terrorism Policing London executing searches at these sites. The investigation is focused on an arson attack that took place around 1:35 AM on Monday, March 23, during which four ambulances belonging to Hatzola, a volunteer ambulance service in the Golders Green area, were set ablaze.
Additionally, two other men were arrested on March 25 and have since been released on bail, with a follow-up date set for late April as the investigation continues.
