A police officer has been terminated from his position after making inappropriate and discriminatory remarks about two women during an undercover investigation by Panorama. The officer, PC Charlie Cano, who was stationed at Charing Cross police station, was dismissed without notice following an expedited misconduct hearing.
The hearing revealed that Cano, who was part of the Central West Command Unit, made disrespectful comments and bragged about using force against a teenage female detainee. His conduct was described as „appalling“ by a senior officer and was uncovered during a BBC investigation into the behavior at the central London police station in October 2025.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Cano was suspended from duty immediately after the undercover footage was revealed.
Misconduct Findings
Commander Simon Messinger stated that Cano’s actions, recorded by an undercover journalist in the custody suite, were unacceptable. The misconduct hearing determined that PC Cano violated professional behavior standards concerning discreditable conduct, authority, respect and courtesy, as well as equality and diversity. In fact, this case is reminiscent of the recent dismissal of the Pride in London CEO due to serious allegations.
Messinger noted that eight police officers have been dismissed for similar „unacceptable conduct“ at Charing Cross. He emphasized that the Metropolitan Police is cooperating with an ongoing investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct into the actions of several officers at the station.
He assured the public that the police are working „tirelessly“ to enhance standards and foster a better culture within the London police force.
