Detectives are calling for witnesses to step forward after an attempted arson incident at a synagogue located in Finchley.
This event is being classified as an antisemitic hate crime.
On Wednesday, April 15, shortly after midnight at 00:00 hours, two individuals dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas approached the synagogue situated on Fallow Court Avenue. They threw two bottles, believed to contain petrol, along with a brick at the building.
Fortunately, neither of the bottles ignited, and there were no reported damages or injuries.
The incident was reported to the police by staff members at 08:30 hours.
Authorities are currently engaged in urgent inquiries to locate the suspects, but no arrests have been made at this preliminary stage.
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s North West Command Unit, with additional support from specialists in Counter Terrorism Policing London.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who oversees policing in the area, stated, „We are aware of the significant concern that this incident will cause in the community, particularly in the wake of the arson attack in Golders Green last month. We are working with the affected synagogue and continuing to meet with community leaders.“
He further reassured the community, saying, „We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously, and detectives are working urgently to identify the suspects. If you have any CCTV, dash cam footage, or information that could assist officers, please contact the police.“
Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days, as additional officers have been deployed. Authorities encourage anyone with concerns to approach these officers.
