The Prince and Princess of Wales were recently spotted during a visit to London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile, where a lighthearted moment unfolded involving a cup of coffee.
During their outing, Kate prepared a coffee for her husband, William. However, the moment took a turn when he declined the drink upon discovering it was not decaffeinated. The Princess of Wales demonstrated her barista skills at Change Please, a social enterprise dedicated to training homeless individuals in the coffee retail industry.
„I’ve made a coffee for you, William,“ Kate said as she presented the drink. When William inquired, „Is it decaf?“ and received a negative response, he humorously suggested that it should be sold instead.
Despite the coffee mishap, Kate carried the drink with her as they continued their exploration of the bustling market, a well-known destination for food enthusiasts for many years.
Staff member Lorent Maliqi commented on Kate’s coffee-making skills, stating, „She did really well. I was surprised; she got the texture of the milk just right—it was a great effort.“
Hands-On Experience at Borough Market
William and Kate actively engaged with vendors during their visit, starting at the Trethowan Brothers stall, which has been selling award-winning cheese from their farm in north Somerset for nearly three decades.
As they sampled handmade Pitchfork Cheddar, made from unpasteurized milk, and Gorwydd Caerphilly cheese, they remarked to stallholder Todd Trethowan, „That’s lunch taken care of.“
Following their tasting, the couple moved behind the counter to cut a wedge of Caerphilly cheese under Mr. Trethowan’s guidance. Kate then used a wire to slice some of the cheddar, which was bagged for their aide to carry later.
Numerous onlookers gathered at the busy central London market, eager to capture photographs of the royal couple.
Engaging with Local Businesses
Later, they interacted with Kim Innes, who operates the Humble Crumble stall, as she served portions of crumble to customers. Innes noted, „They were really keen to do it and really good at it; they put on aprons and everything. They were both encouraging each other and were complimentary about each other’s work.“
Earlier in the day, the couple participated in a pint-pulling contest at the Southwark Brewing Company, where they emerged victorious against the brewery’s founder, further showcasing their hands-on approach during the visit.
