Russell Brand has formally entered a plea of not guilty to two additional charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 50-year-old media figure, known for his work as a broadcaster and actor, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Tuesday to submit his pleas.
Details of the Allegations
The alleged offenses reportedly occurred in London in 2009 and involve two women, as stated by the Crown Prosecution Service. For more context, you can read about the allegations against former Spandau Ballet singer Ross Davidson.
Previously, Brand had also pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault concerning incidents that took place in London and Bournemouth between 1999 and 2005, affecting four women.
A trial is set to commence in June to address the initial charges.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
A subsequent hearing will determine if the new allegations will be incorporated into the existing case. Brand’s attorney indicated that more time is needed for the defense to respond to these recent claims.
Recorder Andrew Baumgartner announced that a case management hearing is scheduled for March.
During the court appearance, Brand confirmed his identity and reiterated his not guilty pleas while dressed in a leopard print shirt, with several buttons undone, and holding a fedora hat. He was seen carrying a Bible with various pages marked.
Brand has been released on bail and is expected to return to Southwark Crown Court on a date yet to be determined.
