A group of 44 students from Year 9 and 10 at Aureus School in Didcot recently participated in MOVE IT, a prominent annual dance convention held at the Excel Centre in London.
The event provided an opportunity for aspiring dancers to engage in a variety of performances, workshops, and gain insights into the dance industry.
Amy King, the head of performing arts at Aureus School, remarked, „MOVE IT is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, and our students felt the excitement as soon as they entered the venue.“
She continued, „Amidst colorful stalls, industry experts, and top-tier performers, the Aureus dancers were able to witness the extensive opportunities available in the dance sector.“
Engagement in High-Level Workshops
During the event, students participated in advanced masterclasses and observed performances from national dance schools, including notable West End productions such as Matilda and Sweeney Todd.
Miss King noted, „Some students from Years 9 and 10 engaged in high-level workshops, dancing alongside older and more seasoned performers. Despite the challenges, they rose to the occasion, which was a proud moment for their teachers and a significant confidence boost for the students.“
Career Insights and Professional Exposure
MOVE IT also highlighted various training pathways and career opportunities within the dance and performing arts sectors, with colleges and professional organizations available to provide guidance to students.
The day offered invaluable exposure to professional environments, assisting students in honing their skills and exploring potential avenues for future education or employment.
Miss King characterized the trip as a „confidence boost“ and commended the group for their maturity and enthusiasm throughout the experience.
