Authorities in London have apprehended a suspect in connection with a series of attacks targeting the Jewish community, raising concerns about potential terrorist activities.
The individual, a 37-year-old man, was taken into custody on Sunday at a location near Barnstaple, Devon, and is currently being interrogated at a police facility in London.
This arrest is part of a broader counter-terrorism investigation focusing on multiple assaults against the Jewish community, which have included attacks on synagogues and emergency vehicles. In recent news, a jarring incident involving a 13-year-old boy has also raised alarms about youth violence in London.
The Metropolitan Police reported that since the incident involving Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green on March 23, a total of 26 individuals have been arrested.
Details of the Incidents
Among the various incidents under investigation, one involved an ignited container being hurled at a Persian-language media outlet, while another incident saw jars containing a non-hazardous substance discovered in Kensington Gardens.
As a result of these investigations, eight individuals have been charged with arson-related crimes, and one person has been convicted of arson.
An Islamist group believed to have ties to Iran, known as Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, has claimed responsibility for the attack on the ambulances, as well as other related incidents across the UK and Europe.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has previously voiced concerns regarding the use of proxy groups by various nations to execute criminal activities. His remarks came during a visit to Kenton United Synagogue, which was targeted with a petrol bomb earlier this month.
The Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism unit is currently investigating the following incidents:
- March 23: Four ambulances belonging to the Jewish charity Hatzola were destroyed in an arson attack in Golders Green.
- April 15: A brick and two bottles believed to contain petrol were thrown at Finchley Reform Synagogue.
- April 15: An ignited container was thrown at the offices of Persian news organization Volant Media.
- April 17: A bag containing bottles of fluid was ignited in the doorway of a building in Hendon that was previously occupied by the charity Jewish Futures.
- April 18: Bins were set ablaze outside a communal block in Barnet.
- April 19: A bottle containing an accelerant was thrown through the window of Kenton United Synagogue on Shaftesbury Avenue, Harrow.
Sir Ephraim Mirvis, Chief Rabbi at Kenton United Synagogue, expressed that the Jewish community is experiencing heightened anxiety due to these events. He has urged the Prime Minister to ensure that the normalization of antisemitism in the UK ceases and that there will be a strict policy of zero tolerance.
