The message from this year’s London Fashion Week is clear: bigger, better, and bolder. As the British capital strives to reclaim its position as a premier hub for innovative designers, both renowned and emerging talents are unveiling their autumn and winter collections.
Among the standout presentations are Paul Costelloe’s impeccably tailored outfits in neutral and brown shades, alongside AGRO Studio’s edgy yet glamorous offerings. In a season where minimalism has dominated, Tolu Coker and Annie’s shows are sure to appeal to those who favor more expressive fashion statements.
Royal Presence and Notable Designs
Tolu Coker, a former recipient of NewGen funding, kicked off London Fashion Week with a significant guest in attendance: King Charles III. The monarch was provided with a special chair and silk cushion to enjoy the British-Nigerian designer’s runway, inspired by Notting Hill, the neighborhood where she grew up.
With notable figures like Stella McCartney and Skepta in the audience, Coker’s show showcased vibrant red and blue tones, featuring striking multicolored tartan dresses and skirts complemented by matching hats and ties. The collection exuded a nostalgic vibe, emphasizing sustainability through the use of deadstock fabrics and eco-friendly dyes. The runway was accompanied by a performance from Little Simz, who donned one of Coker’s colorful designs.
Increased Participation and New Talent
This year’s event boasts 41 runway shows and 20 presentations, reflecting a greater than 10% rise in participation compared to the previous year. The British Fashion Council (BFC) has been actively working to restore London’s global reputation as a designer destination by waiving fees for the second consecutive year to lower entry barriers.
These initiatives appear to be effective, as Temperley London returns to the LFW schedule after a seven-year hiatus, while Joseph makes a comeback after nine years under new creative director Mario Arena. Other prominent names include Julien MacDonald, Erdem, Simone Rocha, and Burberry, which will conclude the fashion week on Monday evening.
Tributes and Sustainability in Fashion
William Costelloe, son of the late designer Paul Costelloe, presented his inaugural collection for the label, paying tribute to his father, who passed away in November of last year. Costelloe described the designs as „a celebration of tailoring,“ aiming to „make women look incredible.“
This season’s collection prominently features chocolate brown, earthy beiges, and crisp whites, with designs that create flattering silhouettes through cinched waists and structured shoulders.
Sustainability also took center stage in KSENIASCHNAIDER’s presentation, showcasing upcycled and reworked garments designed for versatility. The Ukrainian duo, Ksenia and Anton Schnaider, presented eye-catching double denim and military-inspired looks in neutral tones reminiscent of 90s grunge.
Eclectic Styles and Celebrity Attendance
In stark contrast, Annie Doble’s runway was a vibrant display of beading, embellishments, and feathers. The British designer, whose brand originated in Ibiza, is showcasing at LFW for the third year, following several years in the fashion industry.
AGRO Studio, led by Angus Cockram and George Oxby, also made a notable impression with their collection, which featured grungy lace designs and leather-heavy coordinates, drawing on a dark and moody color palette. Some pieces evoked imagery from the set of Wuthering Heights, including satin corsets and full-skirted maxi dresses.
Italian brand Fiorucci opted for a presentation format this year, inviting guests to view models lounging on a white leopard print pool table, dressed in outfits that matched the playful theme. Accessories such as lip-shaped purses, tiaras, and oversized statement necklaces completed the whimsical looks.
As always, London Fashion Week attracts high-profile attendees. Harris Reed, known for dressing celebrities like Beyoncé and Adele, welcomed a star-studded front row at his show, including Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Joe Locke, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Lily Collins. Singer Cat Burns was also spotted at Maximilian Raynor’s show, seated alongside fellow artist Cassyette.
