Thousands of anti-war activists gathered in central London on Saturday, demanding an immediate cessation of military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as an end to arms sales to Israel.
As reported, the protest attracted between 5,000 and 6,000 participants, according to estimates from the Metropolitan Police.
The demonstration commenced at Millbank near Victoria Tower Gardens at noon, organized by a coalition of activist groups, including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), the Stop the War Coalition, and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Marchers made their way toward the US Embassy, brandishing signs that read „Stop Trump’s Wars“ and „No War on Iran,“ while others displayed Iranian and Palestinian flags.
Some participants also carried images of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Organizers characterized the military actions as „illegal“ and cautioned that the escalating conflict could jeopardize millions of civilians throughout the Middle East. In this context, the concerns of the diaspora are highlighted in reports about the fear and foreboding over the situation, as detailed in aktuellen Berichten.
Chris Nineham, vice-chair of the Stop the War Coalition, stated that the current situation represents one of „the most dangerous global moments in decades.“
He further remarked, „(US President Donald) Trump and (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu are creating murder and mayhem across the Middle East. They are risking spreading war across the Middle East, and they are creating the conditions of volatility and instability around the world, and what is disgraceful is that our government is allowing British bases to be used to promote this mayhem.“
Nineham emphasized that a significant number of individuals in Britain oppose the war and urged for a widespread and vocal movement to mobilize against the conflict and advocate for peace.
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified since the US and Israel initiated a large-scale offensive against Iran on February 28, resulting in the deaths of over 1,000 individuals, including Khamenei, more than 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.
In response, Iran has launched extensive retaliatory strikes targeting US bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel throughout the region, as well as multiple cities in Israel. The reactions from various groups, including the brawls between supporters of the Iranian regime and monarchists, have been reported in aktuellen Nachrichten.
