UK Government Denies Entry to Anti-Islam Activist Valentina Gomez

The UK Home Office has denied entry to Valentina Gomez, a US-based anti-Islam activist.

Gomez, who has previously run for election in Missouri and Texas on an anti-Islam agenda, gained notoriety for a campaign video in which she burned a copy of the Quran.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood determined that Gomez’s presence in the UK „would not be conducive to the public good.“

Last week, Gomez announced on social media her intention to speak at the Unite the Kingdom rally organized by Tommy Robinson in London on May 16.

In response to the ban, she suggested she might attempt to enter the UK via a small boat, challenging the government to prevent her. In a video posted on X, she stated:

„They can try to ban me, but they cannot ban the TRUTH. See you on May 16th.“

During a previous Unite the Kingdom rally in London last September, Gomez made inflammatory remarks, referring to „rapist Muslims“ and claiming that Islam was „the sword that the left is using to destroy Christian nations.“

Originally born in Colombia, Gomez expressed her intention to attend the upcoming rally in May.

Prior to the Home Office’s decision to block her entry, Gomez had claimed that her application for a UK visa had been approved. She posted on Instagram, „VISA APPROVED,“ just days before the ban was announced.

This led the Muslim Council of Britain to contact the Home Secretary, voicing concerns about Gomez’s potential visit. In a letter dated April 17, the organization argued that allowing her to speak publicly in the UK would „grant legitimacy and send a troubling message about the selective application of Home Office standards.“

The Muslim Council welcomed the Home Office’s decision, stating it should serve as a „precedent for others who choose to promote disinformation and hatred.“

The Home Office has a history of intervening to deny visas to individuals whose presence it deems potentially inflammatory. Earlier this month, the government also refused entry to Kanye West for a performance at the Wireless Festival due to concerns over his previous antisemitic remarks.
