Update reveals new injury concerns for Liverpool FC following Isak’s exit

Alexander Isak was not the sole Liverpool player to exit the match against Tottenham due to injury.

Isak opened the scoring for Liverpool, only to be substituted shortly thereafter.

Arne Slot has provided insights regarding Alexander Isak after the Liverpool forward experienced an ankle injury during the victory over Tottenham. Isak managed to play for only 11 minutes after being brought on as a substitute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, as the Reds secured three critical points in the Premier League.

While executing a left-footed finish to put Liverpool ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute, he was challenged by Micky van de Ven, who made contact with Isak’s ankle.

Unable to celebrate what would have been his second Premier League goal of the season, Isak received treatment and was carried off the pitch by Liverpool’s medical team.

Following the match, Slot stated: “I don’t have any news on him, but if a player scores, then gets injured and then doesn’t come back on the pitch and doesn’t try to come back, which Conor Bradley, for example, did, but I had to take him off as well because he couldn’t go on, but if a player doesn’t even try to come back that’s usually not a good thing.”

He added, “But I cannot say anything more than that, that is just [a] gut feeling. Nothing medical to say about it.”

Regarding Isak’s performance, he remarked, “It’s a good thing that he scored: a good goal, assisted by Florian Wirtz. I said last week already players are getting better and the team is getting better. Again, it wasn’t perfect today, especially not in the last 10 minutes, but in the meantime, we pick up points and I see the team developing in a way I like to see.”

Slot concluded with the hope that Isak would return soon, although he could not provide a precise timeline.

In addition to Isak, Conor Bradley, who was substituted for Isak at the beginning of the second half, also had to leave the field after sustaining a knock while pursuing Djed Spence in the first half. Furthermore, in the dying moments of the match, Florian Wirtz was seen rubbing his hamstring before being replaced by youngster Trey Nyoni as the visitors managed the final minutes.

Liverpool will return to the pitch next Saturday against bottom-of-the-table Wolves; however, they will be without Dominik Szoboszlai, who is suspended after accruing his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season.
