Warm Weather Expected in London This Week, Outpacing Barcelona’s Temperatures

Temperatures in London are projected to soar to 24C later this week, surpassing those in Barcelona, as reported by the Met Office.

The blustery conditions brought by Storm Dave are anticipated to give way to sunny skies and warmer weather, with London expected to reach 24C and Manchester 20C on Wednesday.

A high of 24C would exceed the current record for the hottest day of the year, which stands at 20.9C recorded in Gogerddan near Aberystwyth on March 18.

This forecast indicates that several regions in the UK will experience warmer temperatures than Barcelona, which is expected to see highs of 19C on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday will also feature sunny weather across the UK, with temperatures hitting 20C in London and 19C in Glasgow.

According to the Met Office, London could reach 24C on Wednesday.

However, this warm spell is not expected to last, as the Met Office predicts a drop in temperatures to around 14C in London on Thursday, with most areas in the UK likely to see temperatures fall below 10C.

This weather shift follows the impact of Storm Dave, which brought snow and strong winds over the Easter weekend, resulting in significant travel disruptions and power outages in northern regions of the UK.

Wind gusts reached 93mph at Capel Curig in North Wales, while Emley Moor in West Yorkshire and St Bees Head in Cumbria recorded winds of 75mph. Buchan in Aberdeenshire experienced gusts of 73mph, according to the Met Office.

Some properties in Scotland were left without electricity due to the high winds overnight. Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) were deployed to restore power to the few affected customers, primarily in Skye, Caithness, and coastal areas of Aberdeenshire.

Met Office Weather Forecast

  • Today: A chilly but bright start with plenty of sunshine throughout the day, though cloudier conditions may occur in the west. A few light rain showers are possible in Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland. Breezy conditions are expected in the west, with many feeling warmer.
  • Tonight: A pleasant evening, though temperatures will drop again under clear skies overnight, leading to a patchy frost in the east. Some showers may still occur in the far northwest.
  • Tuesday: Most areas will remain dry with sunny spells, although cloud and rain may move across Northern Ireland and western Scotland in the afternoon. Breezy conditions are expected in the west, with warmth felt in the sunshine.
  • Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Generally dry on Wednesday with warm sunshine. A cooler trend is expected from Thursday, accompanied by showers or longer periods of rain. Very windy conditions may develop in the northwest by Friday.
