Dog owners are being cautioned to be alert for poisoned meat after the discovery of dead foxes in two parks in London.

The Metropolitan Police reported that chicken, suspected to have been deliberately poisoned, was found in both Holland Park and Brompton Cemetery over a span of several days.

One dog that ingested some of the tainted meat became „very unwell.“ Meanwhile, two foxes were discovered deceased in the parks, showing no visible signs of injury.

Concerns Over Deliberate Targeting of Animals

Authorities suspect that the poison was intended to target animals, specifically dogs or foxes. As a result, dog owners are advised to stay vigilant and prevent their pets from scavenging for food.

Additionally, police have recommended that dogs be kept on leashes at all times while in Brompton Cemetery.

Kris Sikora, a professional dog-walker, shared his concerns, noting that he has encountered similar incidents in the past. „Before, we’ve had toys that have been left around that have been poisoned. The worst one that really shocked me was razor blades being left in tennis balls,“ he stated.

Sikora emphasized the importance of taking dogs to the veterinarian if they consume anything unfamiliar, urging pet owners to „stay as vigilant as possible.“

Community Reactions

Another dog-walker expressed her disgust at the situation, stating, „I can’t even imagine why anyone would do that.“ She voiced her concerns about the potential impact on park attendance, saying, „It will stop people coming to the park with their dogs.“

Reports of similar incidents have emerged from Birmingham parks, where dog-walkers have alerted the public about the presence of rat poison in Victoria Common Park. One individual reported on April 2 that a dog had ingested poison in the park’s pitch area and was receiving critical care.

In a related incident last month on the Isle of Wight, several dogs fell ill after visiting Parkhurst Forest, prompting warnings for dog-walkers to closely supervise their pets in the expansive woodland.

Furthermore, in Gloucestershire in 2024, multiple dogs were hospitalized, with one fatality reported, after consuming a toxic substance.

As the situation develops, dog owners are urged to remain cautious and attentive while walking their pets in public spaces.
