A former vocalist for Spandau Ballet is facing serious allegations of rape and sexual assault, as revealed during court proceedings.
Ross Davidson, 37, who performed under the name Ross Wild, gained recognition as a member of the 1980s band Spandau Ballet in 2018 and also appeared in the Queen-themed West End musical We Will Rock You.
Currently on trial at Wood Green Crown Court, he is accused of raping one woman and filming himself groping another. Davidson, residing in Finchley, north London, has pleaded not guilty to raping a woman in London in March 2015 and has denied attempted rape and sexual assault of another woman in Thailand in December 2019.
Details of the Allegations
The jury was informed that Davidson admitted to a charge of voyeurism concerning the same woman in 2019. Prosecutor Richard Hearnden characterized Davidson as a „bit of a sex symbol“ but emphasized that there are two women who expose a much darker aspect of his character.
Hearnden stated, „Men such as the defendant are often thought to be capable of attracting any woman without resorting to sexual offenses, including rape. Despite his attractiveness, the reality is different. It is because Ross Davidson anticipates sex on demand that he resorts to rape and sexual assault when he does not receive what he believes he deserves.“
Testimonies and Defense
One woman alleged that she felt „scared, intimidated, and helpless“ during the sexual assault, noting the defendant’s superior strength and her fear for her safety.
Defence counsel Charlotte Newell KC countered, asserting that Davidson will maintain that there was no sexual encounter in London, indicating a lack of attraction to the woman and describing the absence of any chemistry between them.
Another woman reported that she had a consensual sexual encounter with Davidson, but did not consent to any intimate touching the following day when he reportedly attempted to rape her. She expressed her fear during that moment and described it as a „very dangerous situation to be in.“ Davidson contended that the touching was consensual and that she was merely pretending to be asleep.
Video evidence retrieved from Davidson’s phone revealed the second complainant asleep, „at least half-naked“ in a hotel room in Phuket, Thailand. She was unaware of the video until police informed her and stated she did not consent to the actions captured.
The trial is ongoing.
