Authorities have closed Kensington Gardens in London as police investigate several discarded items following a video that surfaced online. The footage allegedly shows a group claiming to have targeted the nearby Embassy of Israel using drones equipped with hazardous materials.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that there was no attack on the embassy and are currently looking into the video’s origin and its authenticity. The entire park has been cordoned off and will remain closed throughout Friday as investigations continue.
The embassy has assured that its staff are safe and reiterated that no attack occurred. The Metropolitan Police stated that they do not perceive any heightened risk to public safety at this time.
Emergency services, including a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) team from the Metropolitan Police, have been deployed near the park’s bandstand. Additionally, a fire investigation unit from the London Fire Brigade and the hazardous area response team from the London Ambulance Service are also on-site.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police remarked, „We do not believe there to be any increased public safety risk at this stage, but we would urge people to avoid the area while officers carry out their work.“ The police acknowledged that the incident may raise concerns among local residents and the broader public, yet they maintain that there is no immediate threat.
A spokesperson for the embassy stated, „A suspected security incident is being investigated in the park adjacent to the Embassy of Israel in London. We wish to clarify that all Embassy staff are safe and that the Embassy was not attacked. As always we remain in close and continuous contact with the local authorities.“
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the area to facilitate the ongoing work of emergency services.
