As London transitions from a bright and dry morning into the late afternoon and evening, how will the weather evolve? Will the city experience a mix of conditions next week, or is a deluge on the horizon?

The early sunshine has contributed to a rise in temperatures, creating a pleasant atmosphere for many residents. However, the weather is becoming increasingly unstable, indicating a shift towards a more variable second half of the day.

Throughout the afternoon, London is likely to experience a combination of sunny intervals and sporadic showers. Some of these showers may become quite heavy in certain areas. While not everyone will encounter the most intense rainfall, it is advisable to be prepared for sudden downpours, particularly during the late afternoon.

Although the forecast appears unsettled, it will not result in a complete washout. There will still be significant periods of sunshine between the showers, and when the sun does shine, it should feel relatively pleasant for this time of year. Temperatures are expected to peak around 15°C, slightly warmer than in recent days.

Winds will also influence how the weather feels. Breezy conditions are anticipated, especially during the showers. However, the winds should be less pronounced, allowing for calmer moments.

As night falls and lighter winds develop, temperatures will drop quickly under clearer skies. It will become quite chilly, with minimum temperatures expected to reach around 2°C in some regions. In more rural or sheltered areas of Greater London, a patchy frost may occur by early Monday morning.

Monday: A Bright Start Followed by Showers

Monday will kick off with a calm yet chilly atmosphere, featuring plenty of early sunshine following the clear night. Any early mist or shallow fog patches should dissipate quickly, resulting in a bright and crisp start to the day.

However, as the day progresses, clouds will begin to accumulate once again. By the afternoon, this will lead to the emergence of additional showers across London and its surrounding areas. Similar to Sunday, some of these showers could become locally heavy.

The key distinction for Monday will be the lighter winds. This will make the conditions feel less blustery overall, although it may also allow showers to linger longer in specific areas.

During this time of year, it is typical for the weather to be quite variable throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to mirror those of the weekend, with highs reaching around 14°C. It should still feel pleasant in the sunshine, particularly during the late morning before showers become more prevalent.

Looking Ahead: Tuesday and Beyond

As we look forward, Tuesday is anticipated to bring a return to drier conditions, with sunny spells emerging after another chilly start.

  • Tuesday will be mostly dry with partly cloudy skies.
  • Wednesday is expected to remain largely dry and bright throughout the day, although cloud cover will increase later, bringing some rain overnight.
  • Later in the week, a mix of sunny intervals and isolated showers is forecast, with temperatures trending slightly above average for mid-April.
