The UK is poised to experience a brief period of warmer weather this week, with temperatures potentially reaching new seasonal highs.
Forecasters predict that certain regions may see temperatures soar to 21°C or 22°C on Tuesday, with a further increase expected on Wednesday, where the southeast could experience highs of up to 24°C. However, this warm spell is anticipated to be short-lived, as conditions are expected to cool down by the end of the week.
Impact of Recent Weather Events
This surge in temperature follows the aftermath of Storm Dave, which wreaked havoc over the Easter weekend, bringing winds of up to 70 mph that affected various areas in northern England, Scotland, and Wales.
A spokesperson from the Met Office explained, “As Storm Dave has now moved away, and this high pressure is building behind it, we’re now dragging up warmer air from the continent.” They noted that this time of year can see rapid changes in weather conditions.
Upcoming Temperature Fluctuations
According to the Met Office, a significant shift is expected on Thursday, with temperatures predicted to drop to between 10°C and 13°C. “It’s all purely down to wind direction at this time of year,” the spokesperson added.
“For the next couple of days, we’re dragging in that warm, southerly wind, which will allow us to see temperatures reach the mid-20s. As we go into Thursday, we’ll see temperatures return to normal for the time of year as we see the weather turn more changeable with advances of rain and showers.”
Weekend Forecast
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are expected to stabilize around 10°C in the north and 14°C in the south. The Met Office indicated that this week’s warmer conditions have arrived sooner than initially anticipated, although such high temperatures are not unprecedented for this period, with previous records showing highs of 25°C in early April in both 2011 and 2020.
