Dozens of firefighters have been engaged in combating a fire that broke out in the basement of a 13-storey data centre located in east London.
At approximately 4:50 AM on Saturday, eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were dispatched to Nutmeg Lane in Blackwall. The London Fire Brigade reported that a section of the basement battery room, which housed approximately 200 lead acid batteries, was consumed by the flames.
Incident Details
Fortunately, there was no additional damage to the structure, and no injuries have been reported. The fire was successfully brought under control before 7 AM, although the exact cause remains unknown.
Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham, and East Greenwich responded to the incident due to the high-rise nature of the building, as noted by the fire brigade.
A spokesperson indicated that the fire is believed to have been accidental, likely resulting from a failure of one of the lead acid batteries. They confirmed that the fire was confined to a series of lead acid batteries, with no further damage to the building or any injuries reported.
