In Hackney: Rumored Banksy Reindeer Emerges at London Fields This Christmas

What has sparked the interest of street art enthusiasts in Hackney this holiday season? A rumored Banksy piece depicting a graceful reindeer adorned with Christmas lights has appeared, captivating observers as it gazes skyward.

Banksy is believed to have made another appearance just two days after a previous piece, hinting at a thematic continuity for Christmas 2025. This latest artwork features a stencil located on a wall of a disused tennis court changing room in London Fields.

The reindeer’s impressive antlers are entangled with multicolored fairy lights, suspended from a metal bar affixed to the blue wall. This new addition follows the unveiling of two confirmed Banksy pieces showcasing children lying on their backs and watching the sky, which were observed in Bayswater and near the Center Point building.

Continued Christmas Artistic Commentary

If Banksy acknowledges this piece as his creation, it would mark the second instance of his artistic intervention this Christmas season. For the past eight years, he has utilized this festive period to deliver notable social commentary through his work.

While the anonymous artist has yet to officially claim this new piece, its multi-textural and fourth-wall-breaking characteristics resonate with his established style. The portrayals of characters gazing up reflect scenes in urban areas where homelessness is prevalent, such as Tottenham Court Road and local parks in Hackney.

Interestingly, the name ‚Center Point‘ aligns with one of London’s most significant homeless charities, drawing awareness to their essential efforts in the community.

Anticipation for Further Artwork

The emergence of mixed media in the London Fields location suggests that Banksy may release additional artwork before the New Year. His historical pattern of activity around Christmas has included projects such as ‘Santa’s Ghetto,’ which operated sporadically from 2002 to 2007 in various temporary locations throughout London.

In the past, his work has tackled themes that comment on societal issues, such as one piece portraying Jesus Christ on the cross while holding shopping bags, and another showing a child seemingly eating snowflakes that are later revealed as ashes from a bin fire.

Banksy has already unveiled a collection of nine animal-themed murals throughout London, termed a ‘Concrete Jungle Safari.’ If this latest artwork is indeed his doing, it would represent his second creative endeavor for this Christmas.

This week, he confirmed his authorship of another piece featuring children in winter attire pointing skyward, located on an abandoned building in Queen’s Mews, Bayswater. The mural, first spotted on December 22, was quickly boarded up by workers just hours after its identification.

Additionally, an identical version of this artwork surfaced near the Center Point intersection at Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street, further driving interest among Christmas shoppers.

Speculations suggest this work comments on child homelessness during the holiday season. Banksy’s official Instagram account has yet to recognize it, following his customary practice.

According to reports, the Tottenham Court Road version is believed to have appeared first, designed to engage the attention of holiday shoppers in the area surrounding the popular Outernet attraction.
