Nine individuals sustained injuries in London’s second significant bus accident within a 24-hour period.
Reports indicate that seven of the injured were transported to a hospital following a double-decker bus collision with a bridge in Croydon, located in south London. In total, nine people were affected by the incident.
Details of the Croydon Crash
The accident occurred at the intersection of Park Street and Park Lane in Croydon around 11:30 AM today. This incident marks the second bus-related occurrence in the city in just one day, following a collision involving two double-decker buses in Southwark yesterday.
Emergency medical teams quickly arrived at the scene, where they treated nine individuals for their injuries. The identities of those injured—whether they were passengers, the driver, or bystanders—remain unclear, as does the severity of their injuries.
Investigation and Response
Authorities have suggested that the crash may have been triggered by a medical episode. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The bus involved was the number 60, which was en route to Streatham Station. It reportedly collided with a bridge barrier while transitioning from Park Street onto Park Lane, directly in front of the Slug and Lettuce bar in Croydon.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service stated, “We received a call at 11:30 AM today regarding a road traffic collision on Park Street, Croydon. We dispatched multiple resources to the location, including ambulance crews, paramedics in rapid response vehicles, an incident response officer, and a clinical team manager.”
Previous Incident in Southwark
In a related incident yesterday, six individuals were hospitalized after two double-decker buses collided outside the Southwark Playhouse. Emergency services were alerted to the crash on Newington Causeway at 8:06 AM. Now: Severe Disruption on Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express Continues
Fortunately, the injuries sustained in this incident were not classified as life-threatening or life-altering. James Johnson, Strategic Commander for the London Ambulance Service, remarked, “We were called at 8:06 AM to reports of a road traffic collision in Newington Causeway. We dispatched various resources, including ambulance crews and advanced paramedics, as well as a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.”
Photographs from the Southwark scene revealed damage to a nearby building, with one image showing a bus making contact with the front of the theatre. It appears that the number 188 route bus collided with the rear of the second bus, which subsequently veered into the Southwark Playhouse.
