London travel news LIVE: Overground lines SHUT and Euston chaos as firefighters tackle blaze in Chalk Farm

Significant travel disruptions are occurring at Euston station following a large fire in Chalk Farm, with delays expected to persist throughout the day.

Avanti West Coast has reported that train services may face cancellations or delays of up to an hour. The situation is anticipated to remain challenging until the end of the day.

Fire Incident Details

The fire broke out around 9:30 AM on Regent’s Park Road, prompting a response from approximately 70 firefighters. By 1 PM, the blaze was reported to be under control.

According to the London Fire Brigade, the fire originated in a commercial property, which also impacted a nearby yoga studio. In a related incident, crews tackled a fire at a 13-storey east London data centre.

As a result of the incident, disruptions to rail services are widespread, affecting routes to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Service Updates

Services on Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Overground, and Southern have all been impacted. Passengers are advised to check for updates as the situation evolves.

  • Avanti West Coast services to Birmingham may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.
  • Disruptions on the Overground have been downgraded from severe to minor.
  • London Northwestern Railway services have largely resumed, although some residual delays remain.

Public Safety and Infrastructure

Footage from aerial views has shown firefighters actively working to extinguish the flames. The London Fire Brigade received 27 calls from the public regarding the fire shortly after it began.

As of now, the Primrose Hill footbridge remains partially closed, with a small walkway available for pedestrians. The road is also closed at the junction with Haverstock Hill.

Alternative Travel Options

Travelers whose trains have been cancelled due to the fire can use their tickets on several other services without incurring additional charges. These include:

  • Chiltern Railways between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street
  • CrossCountry between Reading and Derby via Birmingham New Street
  • Great Western Railway between London Paddington and Reading
  • LNER between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh
  • Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston
  • ScotRail between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh

Network Rail has indicated that disruptions are expected to last until the end of the day, with some lines still blocked due to the fire. Additionally, severe disruption on the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express continues.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. In another area, a burst water main in Holland Park has disrupted supply for thousands.
