A shocking incident unfolded in south London when a young man was fatally stabbed, followed by the perpetrator’s brazen display of laughter on a night bus shortly after the crime.
Dino Donaldson, aged 21, was recorded on CCTV aboard an N87 bus, smiling and laughing less than an hour after he fatally attacked Anojan Gnaneswaran, also 21, at Strawberry Hill station in Twickenham.
In a disturbing revelation, Donaldson was also captured on a doorbell camera boasting about the stabbing, stating,
„I stabbed him through the back bro, I stabbed him fully. I watched it and I felt it go in him, yeah.“
Details of the Attack
The violent confrontation occurred on January 8, 2024, when Donaldson pursued Gnaneswaran onto the railway tracks, where he inflicted multiple stab wounds to the chest, abdomen, and thigh. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute between two groups over a drug transaction involving £50 for 10 MDMA tablets.
Gnaneswaran, a third-year university student studying accounting and finance and an accomplished karate competitor, was declared dead at the scene.
Arrest and Investigation
Donaldson was apprehended at his residence in west London on January 11, where he was found hiding in a cupboard. Authorities discovered 74 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin in his bedroom, with an estimated street value exceeding £1,000.
Following a unanimous verdict at the Old Bailey, Judge Angela Rafferty KC ordered that Donaldson remain in custody, with sentencing to be scheduled at a later date.
Official Statements
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell of the British Transport Police commented on the case, stating,
„What started as an argument over a drug deal ended in a young man’s life being cut short by a remorseless thug. Donaldson showed his true colours as a coward by arming himself with a knife that night. His cowardice has continued by never accepting responsibility and admitting his crime – thankfully the jury saw through his lies.“
He added,
„While no verdict can ever compensate for the loss of Anojan, I hope today’s outcome provides his family with some sense of closure. Thanks to our extensive investigation, justice has now been served to the man responsible for killing their loved one.“
Family Tribute
The family of Mr. Gnaneswaran expressed their grief, describing him as a much-loved son and brother. In a statement released through the British Transport Police, they shared,
„Anojan was in his third year at university studying accounting and finance, and he was so excited for his future. He excelled at all sports and had achieved first-dan black belt in karate – he competed in the World and European championships in karate, and we will all miss him so much.“
Conclusion
This tragic event highlights the devastating consequences of violence and the impact it has on families and communities. The investigation continues as the legal proceedings move forward.
