Emergency responders, including police, ambulance, and fire crews, quickly arrived at the scene. By 11:30 AM, both the gallery and the nearby Millennium Bridge were evacuated, and a bomb disposal unit was summoned to investigate the package.
Fortunately, the situation was resolved without any injuries or further incidents. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they had been called to the scene due to concerns about the suspicious package. After assessing the situation, officers determined that there was no threat to public safety, and the area was subsequently reopened.
„There was a suspicious package, so the Tate Modern was evacuated and a cordon was put in place that included the Millennium Bridge. It has been stood down. Officers deduced that it’s not going to harm anyone. The cordon has been released,“ a police spokesperson stated.
Emergency crews were seen in significant numbers at the Tate Modern, with videos shared online showing multiple emergency vehicles on-site. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that they were called to assist police at the incident around 11:30 AM, dispatching two fire engines from the Dowgate and Soho fire stations.
The Tate Modern is located in the Bankside area of Southwark, positioned between the Blackfriars and Southwark bridges, overlooking the River Thames. As of now, the nature of the incident remains unconfirmed by the gallery or emergency services.
