The family of Rinneau Perrineau, a 19-year-old who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent altercation, expressed their devastation following his death. Perrineau, known as Ren, was fatally stabbed after a dispute at a food and wine shop in Wandsworth, southwest London.
The incident occurred around 15:30 BST on October 21 of last year. Following the confrontation, Perrineau was transported to a hospital where he passed away three days later.
Muhammed Cabdiqaadir, 25, from Wandsworth, is facing murder charges in connection with the stabbing. The court was informed that the altercation began when Perrineau struck Cabdiqaadir’s vehicle with a windbreaker displayed outside a neighboring shop.
Details of the Incident
During the proceedings at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Brian O’Neill KC detailed the events leading to the stabbing. According to O’Neill, Cabdiqaadir arrived at the Thirsty Camel Food and Wine store shortly before 15:05. Perrineau entered the shop around 15:12, inquiring about purchasing an iPhone.
Witnesses reported that an argument ensued involving the defendant, Perrineau, and another individual named Nijab Rage. After approximately five minutes, the three men exited the store, with Cabdiqaadir leaving in his blue Citroen.
As the argument continued outside, the two men remained engaged in a dispute while Perrineau returned to the shop. After a brief period, the court heard that Perrineau struck the Citroen with the windbreaker as it began to drive away.
Confrontation and Stabbing
Cabdiqaadir performed a U-turn and returned to the vicinity of the shop, where he parked the vehicle. The prosecution indicated that as Perrineau approached, he saw the Citroen and the driver’s door opened and closed.
Witnesses described how Perrineau ran around the back of the car, at which point Cabdiqaadir exited the vehicle. The court was informed that the defendant allegedly brandished a small, pointed object, believed to be a knife.
“An eyewitness described seeing the defendant lurch forward towards the other male,” O’Neill stated, adding that the two men fled the scene shortly after.
As Perrineau lay bleeding in the street, he reportedly told police, “I don’t know, I think a knife,” when questioned about his injuries. Emergency services transported him to St George’s Hospital, where he ultimately died on October 24.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities apprehended Cabdiqaadir at an Esso service station in Slough on October 25. When questioned by police, he allegedly responded with “no comment” and later asked, “are you sure it was me?” upon being arrested.
Charged with murder on October 26, the defendant claimed during his initial court appearance that he acted in self-defense. However, O’Neill argued that evidence, including CCTV footage, contradicts this assertion, indicating that it was Cabdiqaadir who was armed while Perrineau was not.
In addition to the murder charge, Cabdiqaadir faces a separate charge for possessing a bladed article. The trial is ongoing as the court continues to examine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
