According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police, „At 8:34 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on New Kent Road, Southwark.“ Injuries were reported as five individuals were treated at the scene, with two of them transported to the hospital.
The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. and temporarily closed New Kent Road in a westbound direction. Fortunately, none of the injuries sustained were life-threatening or life-changing.
Impact on Local Transportation
Following the crash, several London bus services were placed on diversion. The affected routes included: 1, 53, 63, 172, 188, 363, and 453. However, it is reported that those services have since returned to their regular paths.
The London Ambulance Service dispatched resources to the site, with first responders arriving in under two minutes. They treated two of the injured and subsequently took them to an Accident & Emergency department.
Ongoing Investigation
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with this incident, and authorities are conducting further inquiries. Those with information related to the crash are encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 and referencing case number 1741/17Jan.
Motorists are advised to steer clear of New Kent Road due to heavy traffic and road closures resulting from the collision, as reported by Google Maps.
New Kent Road is a one-kilometer-long A-road connecting Elephant and Castle to Bermondsey.
