A man has received a life sentence with a minimum duration of 15 years for the murder of his brother.
On Wednesday, September 17, at the Inner London Crown Court, Peter John, aged 59 (born December 3, 1965), from Homerton Road in Hackney, pleaded guilty to killing his brother, Miller John, who was 60 years old. The sentencing occurred the following day, December 18, at the same court.
Authorities were notified after John went to the Stoke Newington police station shortly after 10:00 hours on Monday, March 3.
While outside the station, he called emergency services and indicated he believed he had committed murder. When pressed for details, he stated, “I bludgeoned my brother last night in a fit of rage.” While he remained on the line, police officers exited the station to converse with him.
John informed the police that the incident had transpired the previous night and that he awoke to find his brother deceased on the floor. He subsequently left the residence and walked to the police station.
Police and the London Ambulance Service responded to the location on Homerton Road, where they discovered Miller’s body. He had been attacked using multiple objects, including a garden fork and a walking stick, resulting in numerous puncture wounds to his leg and head.
John was arrested on March 3 and charged on March 4.
Subsequent to John’s confession, investigators examined evidence, including CCTV recordings, to reconstruct his activities before and after the incident. This evidence was essential in fortifying the investigation and establishing a robust case against him.
Detective Inspector John Marriott, who oversaw the investigation, remarked:
“I hope today’s sentencing brings some comfort to the John family. I can only imagine how hard the past few months have been for them.
“Peter carried out a senseless attack against his brother in the home they shared together. Throughout this difficult period, our officers have worked closely with the family to provide support; as always, our thoughts are with them.”
