Emergency services responded to a serious incident in east London where nine individuals sustained injuries after a police pursuit ended in a crash.
The Metropolitan Police reported that officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of being stolen. When the driver failed to comply, a brief chase ensued, culminating in a collision with another vehicle in Ilford.
According to the London Ambulance Service (LAS), ten individuals, including occupants from both vehicles and a motor scooter rider, received treatment at the scene. Of these, nine were transported to local hospitals for further care.
Details of the Incident
The LAS received a call at 12:30 AM regarding the crash occurring at the intersection of Barley Lane and High Road. Among those treated, five individuals, aged between 14 and 46, were reported to have sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the pursued vehicle, a woman in her twenties, was arrested on multiple charges, including dangerous driving, theft, and failing to stop. She is currently hospitalized.
Additionally, four passengers from the stolen vehicle—a woman in her forties, a teenage girl, and two men in their twenties—were also arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle and remain in the hospital. This incident is reminiscent of other recent events, such as when a 13-year-old boy was arrested over a viral trend that has been spreading across the UK.
Ongoing Investigation
The Metropolitan Police have issued an appeal for information regarding the incident and indicated that the junction will remain closed in all directions as investigations continue.
An LAS spokesperson noted that an air ambulance was dispatched, along with a hazardous areas response team, although the specific reasons for the latter’s involvement were not disclosed. „We treated ten patients at the scene and transported nine to the hospital. One individual declined further assistance,“ the spokesperson stated. The chaos surrounding this incident is part of a larger pattern, as seen in reports of teenage chaos erupting in Clapham.
