Detectives investigating a shooting in Brent have identified the victim as they continue to work diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
Officers have confirmed that the individual fatally shot during the incident in Stonebridge on the evening of Friday, December 19, was 55-year-old Simon Whyte.
As the probe into Simon’s death progresses, detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Team are appealing for witnesses, relevant information, and anyone possessing dashcam footage to come forward immediately.
Call for Witnesses
Authorities are particularly interested in hearing from a group of individuals who were gathered in the vicinity when the shooting occurred.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation, stated, „Firstly, our thoughts are with Simon’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Enquiries are well underway, and my team is working vigorously to determine the circumstances that led to his tragic death.“
John further noted, „There’s no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area. I’d like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority.“
He urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses information, including dashcam footage, that might assist with inquiries to contact them as soon as possible. „We also believe there was a large group of people congregated nearby at the time the incident happened, and we are keen to hear from them,“ he added.
Details of the Incident
Police received a call at 21:35 hours on Friday, December 19, regarding reports of a shooting on West End Close, Stonebridge. Officers administered emergency first aid to the 55-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite the best efforts of the officers and the London Ambulance Service, he tragically died at the scene.
