A tragic incident unfolded at Primrose Hill, a well-known lookout in north London, where a 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed. Finbar Sullivan had gone to the park on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, to meet a friend, an undergraduate student.
During the confrontation, his friend AJ, who is reportedly studying at the University of Nottingham, sustained injuries to his hand and back while attempting to defend Finbar. Witnesses reported that Finbar had recently purchased a new video camera to celebrate his 21st birthday and was in the park to test it out and enjoy some music when he was attacked.
Despite the chaos, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Videos circulating from the scene depicted groups of young men engaged in a violent altercation, with one individual brandishing a knife.
Finbar’s father, Chris Sullivan, 65, shared his grief, stating that AJ had tried to protect his son when the attack occurred. „They went up there because it was a nice day. My son met his friend and he was also stabbed,“ Chris recounted. He added that AJ is currently recovering after receiving medical treatment.
“My son was very morally stood up… he always stood up for other people,” Chris said.
Authorities have initiated a murder investigation following the stabbing, which occurred shortly after 6:30 PM. A second man, believed to be in his 20s, was discovered nearby on Regent’s Park Road with stab wounds and was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Chris expressed uncertainty regarding the motive behind the attack, suggesting that it could have been related to bullying or an attempted robbery. A witness, who requested anonymity, described the park as unusually crowded that day due to favorable weather and the Easter holidays.
“Then suddenly we heard this commotion from behind us, and a big brawl kicked off – people were throwing punches, people were screaming at others to stop,” the witness recounted.
Superintendent Matt Cox of the Metropolitan Police described the event as an „utterly tragic incident“ and extended condolences to Finbar’s family and friends. He assured the local community that the investigation is progressing rapidly and that an increased police presence will be maintained in the area as inquiries continue.
Cox urged anyone who was in the vicinity during the incident and may have information to come forward to assist the investigation.
