A man has been fatally shot in south London, marking the second deadly shooting in the city within a week. The incident occurred on Lord Warwick Street in Woolwich around 3:40 PM on Thursday.
Emergency services responded promptly, but despite the efforts of paramedics, the victim was declared dead at the scene. Following this tragic event, a murder investigation has been initiated.
The authorities have notified the victim’s next-of-kin and are providing support through specialized officers. In connection with the shooting, three men have been apprehended and are currently in custody, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Details of the Incident
The shooting took place on a residential street located less than 500 meters from the Woolwich Ferry and in proximity to the Woolwich Dockyard train station.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another fatal shooting that occurred less than a week prior, where 26-year-old Nahom Medhanie was killed while sitting in a vehicle outside Euston Station on Saturday night.
Police Response and Community Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is overseeing the investigation into the Woolwich shooting, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends. She stated,
“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and loved ones. We are aware of the concern that this incident will cause the local community. We have already made three arrests and our investigation continues at pace.”
Card urged anyone who was in the vicinity during the time of the shooting, or who possesses CCTV or dash cam footage, to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.
