A man from North London has been sentenced for his involvement in operating websites that facilitated the sharing of child exploitation material. Matthew Slate, 36, from Wood Green, held significant roles on several pro-paedophile forums, including serving as a ‚Global Moderator‘ on a site known as ‚Olympus‘.
Slate was implicated in the distribution of compromising images of children and engaged in sexual discussions regarding child abuse on these platforms. He also co-created and financed an image hosting site specifically designed for users to upload child pornography.
Investigation and Arrest
In 2025, following a tip-off, officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) executed a search warrant at Slate’s residence. During the search, they confiscated three electronic devices, including a computer that was logged into a forum where discussions about child sexual abuse were taking place. Another browser tab was found to be connected to a site dedicated to uploading child sexual abuse material.
Subsequent examinations of the devices revealed a staggering total of nearly 87,000 indecent images of children, with over 15,200 categorized as Category A, the most severe classification of child sexual abuse material.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Slate appeared at Wood Green Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges on February 19. On May 8, he was sentenced to six years in prison and received a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Robert Lay, a Senior Investigation Officer with the NCA, stated, „Slate’s depravity led him to become an active member of multiple pro-paedophile forums across the dark web. He encouraged others to view, share and discuss vile crimes against children with no regard for the victims involved. He benefitted not just through his own sexual gratification but through earning kudos from other members of these sites.“
Lay emphasized the NCA’s commitment to bringing those who perpetrate child sexual abuse to justice, asserting that the agency will utilize all available resources to uncover individuals operating within the dark web.
