Authorities have initiated a murder investigation after a 60-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack in North London. The Metropolitan Police discovered the critically injured individual while on patrol in Chippenham Road, Maida Vale, at approximately 2:40 AM on Thursday, May 14.
Officers provided immediate first aid until paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived to transport the victim to the hospital. Despite receiving medical care for a week, the man, identified as Michalis Kyriacou, passed away on Friday, May 22. His family is currently receiving support from specialized officers.
Arrest and Charges
Following the incident, police began investigating Kyriacou’s known associates, leading to the arrest of a suspect on May 17. Biniam Tewolde Negash, a 36-year-old resident of Maida Vale, was charged with attempted murder on the same day. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates‘ Court on May 18 and has since been remanded in custody.
The Crown Prosecution Service has been notified of Kyriacou’s death, and the investigation is ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command expressed condolences, stating,
„Our thoughts are with Michalis‘ family and friends following this tragic news.“
Howie also reassured the local community, emphasizing that specialized officers are diligently working to piece together the events surrounding the incident.
